Welcome Home! Dive in and take a glimpse of our beautiful Meru Mbega Lodge and Simba Farm. Here a short birds perspective of what awaits.

Meru Mbega Lodge and Meru Simba Farm

Nestled on the lush slopes of Mount Meru, the Meru Mbega Lodge spans approximately 44,000 square meters and offers stunning views of Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and Arusha National Park. Its unique location, right on the park’s edge, allows guests to frequently spot giraffes, zebras, colobus monkeys, warthogs, and even elephants from the lodge's veranda or View Tower.

The lodge features 20 spacious and comfortable rooms, accommodating between 2 to 5 guests, all set around the main building and surrounded by vibrant gardens that are home to dozens of bird species. The open-plan main building houses an African-style restaurant, bar, and a cozy lounge area. Guests can also enjoy a swimming pool, outdoor fitness area, small Maasai souvenir shop, and a campsite with clean facilities.

Meru Mbega Lodge is an ideal base for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Conveniently located between Kilimanjaro Airport and Arusha town, it also serves as a perfect starting point for safaris in northern Tanzania. The lodge organizes guided walks with a Maasai guide through the surrounding areas, as well as cultural excursions to nearby authentic villages and markets. For those interested in local agriculture, a combined agro-tourism and safari program is available.

Meru Mbega Lodge provides a peaceful retreat for guests to relax after a long overseas flight, enjoy the serene natural surroundings, and indulge in a delicious dinner before embarking on an unforgettable safari or trekking adventure. Together with the neighboring Meru Simba Farm, the lodge is managed by a Tanzanian/German family. Guests are warmly welcomed in their native language and have the chance to learn some Kiswahili from the friendly local staff.

Wolfgang H. Heep, originally from Germany, and his Tanzanian wife Kakuu were both key figures in Baobabvillage Co. Ltd. After Wolfgang’s passing, their sons, Christopher and Mark, now manage the company together with their mother, Kakuu.

Wolfgang first arrived in Tanganyika in 1964 as a volunteer, and from that moment, East Africa captured his heart. During his early years, he explored the region in a trusty Volkswagen Beetle, visiting countless national parks and landmarks.

In 1985, Wolfgang returned to Tanzania to work in development. From 2000 onwards, he expanded his focus to include ownership of several prominent ventures, including Selous Mbega Camp, Kilwa Seaview Resort, Meru Mbega Lodge, and Meru Simba Farm.

From a previous marriage, Wolfgang had an elder son, Sascha, who shares the family’s deep roots in Africa. Sascha, born in Ethiopia in 1973, has lived across the continent—in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. He is also a director at Baobabvillage Co. Ltd. and is married to Neema, with whom he has a daughter named Bridget Donyo.
